What is a Non Profit? -
“A NPO is formed for the purpose of serving a public or mutual benefit other than the pursuit or accumulation of profits for owners or investors.”
- Approximately 1.2 million organizations are registered with the IRS as NPO’s
- Millions more exist but aren’t registered with the IRS because their revenues are less than $5000 a year
- NPO’s in the U.S. have combined revenues of $621.4 billion
Types of NPO's:
1) Charities - American Red Cross, Salvation Army, YMCA
2) Foundations - W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Ford Foundation, community foundations
3) Social Welfare or Advocacy Organizations - National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Americal Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), National Rifle Association (NRA)
4) Professional/Trade Associations - Chamber of Commerce, American Medical Association (AMA)
5) Religious Organizations - Churches
Assignment
1. Pick a NPO or Charity that interests you
2. Now pretend that the NPO/Charity has hired you to make a promotional video for them. The video must contain the following:
- * Give history of the company
- * Talk about ways that people can get involved with them
- * Make it emotionally connecting with your audience
- * Length of video must be 2-6 minutes long
- * If you are using audio besides sound...you need to do a voiceover (at least 50% MUST BE YOUR OWN VOICE)
- Site any sources you used at the end of the video (music, video clips, internet sites you used, etc...)
