Thousand of doctors in the UK went on strike today due to the British government's plans to make new contracts for them later this year. Since Britain has free healthcare, doctors work for the publicly funded National Health system. Their new contracts will increase their basic pay by 13.5%, but other bonus payments, like working weekends and nights, are being cut. This leads to some doctors working more hours for the same pay overall, or even less pay. Pay for doctors in based on how long they have been doctors, and are promoted from "Junior Doctors" to "Consultants" after 8-10 years, along with making more money. Currently, the doctor's pay is increased each year, but under the new contract, their pay will increase with time spent on the job, so their pay will not increase if they, for example, take maternity leave.

I agree with you totally, the UK government should not drive them away because they aren't being paid properly. We all need doctors and without them we'll all get very sick and die, this is why we should pay them accordingly. Not paying for maternity leave should not be legal in the UK.

I agree! Doctors are hard working and very credible. It takes years of studying and training to be a doctor, I dont understand why they would not be paid. Many people would not be alive today if it wasnt for doctors, I think this is an unfortunate case for doctors in London.

Doctors have many many years of training and have been through multiple years of education to do the things that they do to save patients. Doctors should be paid much higher than other occupations because of the things they have to go through to become a doctor.

I also agree with you, doctors should be paid on maternity leave. They are the people who save lives and having many great doctors leave because of bad pay is ridiculous.

An online petition has been started against Target for letting people use the bathroom that they want regardless of the gender on their birth certificate. The petition got over 700,000 signatures in one week. Target is standing by it's policy.

Completely agree with you! I understand how this subject is sorta sensitive because many people seem to assume the worst case scenarios having gender neutral bathrooms. Of course the possibility is always there of people taking advantage of this new policy and try to do something bad but hopefully Target can take the right measures to prevent incidents like that.

I fully agree! I understand the "dangers" of those who could abuse this policy. But personally, I'm not worried about it since like you mentioned you're in a separate stall. And not only that but you're also in a PUBLIC bathroom so if some sort of assault were to go down obviously someone would stop it or say something. Bottom line, Trans people should most definitely use the bathroom they feel most comfortable with.

A 9 year old boy set up a lemonade stand in order to raise money for his own adoption. He wanted to help pay for the legal fees in his adoption case. People drove over two hours in order to come to his stand. He raised about $7,000 with his lemonade stand.

This really shows determination in a person, especially in one such as this boy his age. This boy will inspire more kids his age to work for what they want, like you said. This will build character and self esteem.

On Thursday, Government officials from Venezuela announced that they will be going through a 40 day blackout session. This session is claimed to be caused by El Nino and the current drought in the country, but outside experts say the session is due to the "dysfunctional" government. During the Blackout period, electricity stopped over a period of 40 days so that they can cut back on energy usage.

Wow! Forty days is A VERY LONG time to go by without electricity! I am shocked to see that a country can let it go that far to the point where they have to go over a month without electricity. I don't believe this blackout period will do any good if anything many citizens will be affected by this event.

Saudi Arabia uses oil to fund 87% of its entire economy, and the recent crash in oil prices since 2014 have been killing them economically. It only costs them 10 dollars per barrel to make their oil, but they would need to sell each barrel for 86 dollars each to be able to balance their budget on 87% oil. The current price of oil is exactly half of that, at 43 dollars per barrel. Their plan is to boost the public sector, which only controls 40% of their economy as of now. Currently, 70% of the Saudi nationals are employed by the government and make 1.7 times as much money as their counterparts in the private sector. The government plans to fund private companies and encourage people to work for the private sector, hopefully increasing the private sector to 65% of the economy as well as decreasing unemployment.

The Senate passed an energy bill this week that includes billions of dollars in new or expanded subsidies for coals. Over the next 5 years, the bill dedicates 1.3 billion dollars for research and development, 275 million dollars for demonstration projects, 1.1 billion dollars for large-scale demonstrations projects and 88 million for net negative cargo dioxide emission projects. The foregone tax revenue is worth more than 2.5 billion dollars over the next 10 years. A study was done in 2012 that measured the worth of these clean coal technologies. It concluded that it is so expensive that over 200 gigawatts of new-coal technology would have to be made in order to be competitive with existing plants.

I agree that these coal companies are too inefficient to be economically viable. This amount of money would be wasted and is already a strain on our nations debt. With it also requiring 200 gigawatts to even start to compete with other plants it will not be viable.

Venezuela is at an 500% inflation. Government officials announced that there will be rolling blackouts for 40 days in cities among Venezuela. The results from the blackouts will help save power at a time when water levels at the country's main electric dam are at a record low. Venezuela has the world's largest oil reserves in the world but they export their oil to other countries instead of keeping it to run their own electricity. The president also wants to push Venezuela's time zone half an hour in may to give people more daylight during working hours.

Venezuela inflation is likely due to the amount of economic dependence on oil. The country trusted too much of their economic success on their oil. I think the best way to fix the crisis is to find another commodity to profit on.

The chicken in the boxes of whole-grain breaded nuggets, patties, breakfast patties, tenderloins and popcorn-style varieties may be contaminated with "extraneous materials," the U.S. Department of Agriculture said. The materials include plastic, wood, rubber and metal, the USDA said in a news release today. The products were sold in stores under the Gold Kist Farms, Pierce and Sweet Georgia brands. In Sub-Saharan Africa they reached lowest economic rate since the 2008 crisis. This puts them in a 17-year low for this region. Massive population expansions isn't helping, won't increase GDP per capita. The continent's GDP per capita currency sits at the lowest since 2009 at a 0.5%. The decline in oil and other natural resources will make them less dependent on this and force them to diversify. One way they predict on saving the economy is by investing in their cities to make them more livable for the lower and middle class.

Scientists discovered an oddd migration pattern in dinosaurs. They found that many species migrated away from Europe and into other areas of the world, around the time the continents start splitting apart. It's interesting because it shows dinosaurs were similar to our animals today in terms of migration. Scientists aren't entirely sure why they moved out of Europe but are convinced it had to do with continental shifting at the time.

A 7 year old boy recived a second degree burn on the back of his legs after he used the toilet seat at his school. The burn first looked like a sunburn but then the next day, it proggessed into a second degree burn. The boy couldn't wear pants for 11 days and he missed more than 2 weeks of school. I agree! If there has been multiple reports of the same thing, they should be doing something about it. Perhaps close down that bathroom temporarily for the safety of other students. If this type of "burn" has prohibited this child from going to school for a full two weeks, then the smart decision would be to close this bathroom so that less kids suffer from this incident and also so they don't miss out on their education.

The U.S. goods trade deficit narrowed sharply in March as imports tumbled, suggesting economic growth in the first-quarter was probably not as weak as currently anticipated. The Commerce Department said in its advance report on Wednesday that the goods trade gap fell to $56.90 billion last month from $63.44 billion in February. The small goods deficit suggested there could be an upside surprise in gross domestic product growth for the first quarter. Economists polled by Reuters have forecast gross domestic product (GDP) rising at a 0.7 percent annualized rate in the first three months of the year.

New U.S. single-family home sales unexpectedly fell in March, but the decline was concentrated in the West region, suggesting that the housing market continued to strengthen. The Commerce Department said on Monday new home sales decreased 1.5 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 511,000 units. February's sales pace was revised up to 519,000 units from the previously reported 512,000 units.

In Denmark, controversy is growing due to road signs that point the way back to Syria, Iraq, and other middle eastern countries. This is seen as symbol of the anti-immigrant feelings that Denmark is experiencing. This is also seen as an act to provoke a debate over the issue. Venezuela has recently announced that they are shortening the work week to two days. They're no longer doing 5 days a week as before. The claim for this cutback is to save electricity and energy. They've already had lots of set backs and this is just going to worsen the crisis. The Venezuelans are currently living with the Zika virus, food and medical shortages and political fights. Luckily this setback is only lasting until they can regain more power and energy which will be by the end of this May.

A "newly" discovered species is already endangered. The Kipunji monkey was discovered in 2004 in Africa. Before the discovery, it had been around 80 years since there'd been such a discovery. Unfortunately, after the news the Kipunji population significantly dropped and was then put on the endangered list in 2008. The dropping is said to happen due to poaching and industrialization (nature traps). The population as of early 2016, has been reduced to just a 1000 monkeys.
